Biographical
Braxton Kittrell was born in Mobile, Alabama on March 5, 1943. He attended public schools in Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School in 1961. He attended the University of Alabama for undergraduate and law school, graduating in January, 1967 with a J.D. degree. He began his public career by running for circuit judge in Mobile County in 1976, was elected and began serving in January, 1977. He ran unopposed and was re-elected for three additional terms of office in 1982, 1988 and 1994. He retired as a circuit judge in April, 1999 and reentered the private practice of law. Kittrell became presiding circuit judge in January, 1989 and served in that capacity until his retirement. He still serves as an active/retired judge in cases around the State of Alabama by appointment of the Chief Justice, and served by joint appointment of the Chief Justice and the Governor as Special Supreme Court Justice in 2004 in the case of Roy S. Moore vs. The Judicial Inquiry Commission of the State of Alabama.
